Welcome to the website of the Fairford, Faringdon, Filkins and Burford Ploughing Society. Hopefully this site will give you all the information you need to help you enjoy your day out at the show, held annually on the last Saturday in September.
Dear Members, Ploughers, Exhibitors and Friends
First of all we hope that you are managing to stay safe and well through these difficult times and we thank you for your continued support.
Of course, last years match had to be cancelled… there are those that would say otherwise but we have to be responsible and clearly, having thousands of people mixing together for a country show would have been wrong.
With your support last year the Committee have made a donation of £1000 to The Farming Community Network to help farmers and families within the farming community through difficult times – 2020 can be definitely classed as one of those.
Can we hold an event this year?
.. well, who knows. But let’s hope so. We have had some distance meetings and have come up with a basic plan, depending on the lockdown rules at the time.
We have a perfect site and if nothing else we would hope to run a Ploughing Match, no trade stands, no marquee just the ploughing and a limited attendance.
As rules allow, we’d add outside trade stands, outside craft stalls and beer tent, food vendors and a main ring. We would hope to add the Heavy Horses and the Working area…but we feel it’s unlikely that we can have a marquee and unless something changes dramatically in the next few weeks, we would not pursue that avenue. Unfortunately, some of the favourites that are usually housed within it would have to be omitted. We hope that you can bear with us until we can come out at the other end.
When all this is over, we want to hit the ground running and continue to stage the best show of its type in the Country.
Our Facebook page and website remains our places of contact whether it be for joining as a member, or finding out more about our plans as the year progresses.
With best wishes
Roly Paterson, Chairman
Fingers crossed for this year – Saturday 25th September 2021, Manor Farm, Hatford, Faringdon, Oxon SN7 8JH by kind permission of Mr John Bayliss
The next event is on the Saturday 25 September 2021 . As usual there will be the normal ploughing match in the morning and the Country Show in the afternoon with all your favorite exhibitions and demonstrations. Please find out further detail about the event, when they become available, here...
Ploughing is still the prime job in cultivation the earth and, despite this high technological and computerised age, the basic design of the plough remains largely unchanged since medieval times. There are several types of plough but all are based on the same principle. Find out more here...
